The relationship between Aetherius and the mortal plane is one of dependence and separation. While the gods of the mortal world (the Aedra) sacrificed their power to create the physical universe and remain tethered to it, the entities in Aetherius exist outside these constraints. For a mortal soul, death is not an end but a transition; typically, souls travel to specific afterlives based on their worship and culture, such as Sovngarde for Nord heroes or Stendarr's realm for the faithful. The Void does not serve as an afterlife destination; rather, it represents non-existence, the absence of magic, and the void where unclaimed or lost souls simply cease to be. Ascension directly into Aetherius is impossible for mortal beings, regardless of spiritual enlightenment, as all mortal souls remain bound to Mundus or specific Oblivion planes upon death.
